fundraising without selling
Overview of Fundraising Programs
All schools inevitably need to fundraise in order to succeed, and fundraising would be impossible without the parents and students of the Academy of St. Adalbert. But we also know that you secretly bought that box of candy bars instead of sending your child out on the streets to sell them. You'd rather not be selling things to raise funds, right?
The Academy of St. Adalbert has been resourceful in seeking ways to raise money without selling. The programs and activities listed below take little time and effort but greatly benefit the school. Please explore and participate in these methods of fundraising, and help keep fundraising free of selling.
Note: If you find a school benefits program that we're not participating in, please let the office know by calling (440) 234-5529.

It is as simple as collecting the labels and sending them to the academy with your child. Important Note: Effective June 2, 2006, Campbell's will no longer accept front panel product labels as proof of purchase. Two bright green and yellow containers next to the east door of the building are available for you to drop off your newspaper, magazines, shopping catalogs, office and school papers, and old mail. Paper is weighed by a scale on the collection truck, and funds are sent monthly to the Academy of St. Adalbert for the weight of paper collected for that month. When you drop off your paper, please make sure that it's free of plastic, glass, metal, and trash, as it can ruin the recycling process. |

Bingo Job Descriptions - PLEASE READ
My name is Debbie Greenhill. Most of you know me. I took over Bingo 8 months ago. I just wanted to share a little of my experiences with you. I have never played Bingo before. I have never been to Bingo before. I do not gamble and have only put a few quarters in a slot machine a couple of times while visiting Atlantic City and Las Vegas. I took over Bingo from Martie Borowski who ran it for 26 years! She was ready to retire from it and I thought it would be a good way for me to get involved and volunteer. I had no idea what I had signed up for! I've had many friends and family tell me to quit "you're doing so much and not being paid or reimbursed in any way", but I can't.
When I first came to Bingo I didn't know anyone. The cashier's, the kitchen help, the instant help and the callers were all strangers. The players were all strangers. There were only about 3 parents that volunteered and I didn't even know them. I had to learn the games. I had to learn the system. I had to learn the volunteer's names and their personalities. They knew what they were doing and I didn't. They had to like me too or else I feared they might quit.
Well, 8 months later, I've got to tell you, I've met the most amazing people in my life. I've met parents I've never met before but see around school all the time and we are now friends. I've met men and women who are on the parish council and we are now friends. I've met parishioners that I would never have talked to before and we laugh and tell stories and look forward to seeing each other monthly.
And then there are the players. What a crazy bunch they are. Men and women of all ages and races. I have met the nicest, funniest, and sometimes most ornery people working at Bingo. At first they weren't too sure about me. Some of them gave me a hard time. Some of them tried to hustle me for favors. Some of them yelled at me and tried to make me mad. Some of them called me names and some of them even made me cry. But no more. I see them in the grocery store and they come over and say hi! I see them when I go out to get something to eat and they hug me. If someone at Bingo who doesn't know me starts to give me a hard time, they stick up for me.
Some of you may be reluctant to help out. It is hard to get involved with something that you are unfamiliar with. It's hard to spend 4 hours of your time hanging out with a bunch of people when you don't know anyone. I am here to assure you that you will not be mistreated. You will be treated as a guest at first and then as we see more and more of you, like a family member.
Isn't that what being a part of this school and parish is really all about? I think it is!
Click here to print a volunteer form and send it in to the office. We are in desperate need of the following:
FLOOR HELP: This job requires having a voice that carries far enough to reach our stage. You don't have to have the biggest mouth in the land but the soft spoken need not apply.
Your duties would include: Calling the winning serial number on the bingo players card up to the Caller on stage. Sometimes, 3 or 4 players call bingo at the same time so you may have to move around a little bit. THEN... you have to go over to the cashier stand, collect their winning money and give it to them. It's a simple as that!! Our Bingo players LOVE you! You're paying them when they win...they like that a lot!!
Currently asking for help only on Sunday's from 5pm until 9:30pm. Only asking for a commitment of ONE Sunday per month!
CALLER: This is your big chance to be a star! You control the game! This job is for someone confident, and someone not squirmish around computers. I learned this pretty fast and I will personally train you. You have to have thick skin to do this job however. Sometimes our players will yell up to you if you make a mistake and it's kind of hard to hear sometimes, BUT I learned a few tricks to get around that which I will definitely share with you!
Currently asking for help on Sunday's from 5pm until 9:30 pm and hopefully someone to call the first half of Bingo on Wednesday's from 6pm until about 8:30pm. Only asking for a commitment of ONE Sunday per month!
KITCHEN HELP: We could use some more kitchen help. This job would consist of serving hot dogs (lots of them because they're really good!), sloppy Joe sandwiches and helping our bingo players decide what cake they feel like splurging on today (should I have the chocolate cake with the white icing or the yellow cake with the chocolate frosting...hmmmmm). Also, half way through bingo we make some really good pizza. Come and help and you can have a piece too! Working in the kitchen is an awesome opportunity to meet parents you wouldn't normally meet through your kid's grade and to meet some of the nicest parishioners St. Adalbert's has!
Currently looking for a few good men and women on Sunday's AND Wednesday's. It would be awesome if we could have enough help that we could have 2 VERY short shifts in the kitchen. Only asking for a commitment ONE Sunday or Wednesday per month!
CASHIER: All of the cashier positions are currently filled HOWEVER, what if someone gets sick? I would love to train a couple of people to cashier and be ON CALL in case someone does get sick. This job consists of selling bingo papers to our players when they come in and then helping call the numbers back to the caller and also, you are in charge of keeping track of the pay outs to the winners. You must be responsible and organized. You should probably be able to count money too!
Currently looking for someone who can come in and train on a Wednesday OR a Sunday and can fill in on a Wednesday or a Sunday if need be.
INSTANTS: This job consists of selling $1.00 instant bingo tickets to our bingo players. This is fast paced and you need to be able to do a little walking. It's definitely not hard and if you feel comfortable with this job you can call out the winning ticket numbers on the microphone and pay out to the winners. We currently have three parishioners who do this EVERY Sunday and Wednesday and frankly, if I don't find some more help for them, I'm afraid I'll burn them out. None of these three parishioners has children in our school but they really enjoy the relationships they share with our bingo players.
Currently looking for as many people as possible on either Wednesday's or Sunday's to give these people a day off every once in a while! ONLY asking for a commitment of ONE Sunday or Wednesday per month!
ASSISTANT INSTANT BINGO MANAGER: I could really use someone to make a huge commitment to help our Instant Manager Lynnea so she can have a day off. She has sacrificed SO much to be at every Bingo and she doesn't even have any children in school. Duties would include selling instant tickets, paying winners and balancing the instant tickets at the end of the night. This is a huge responsibility! If you are organized, good with numbers and have some management skills, please contact me ASAP.
Currently looking for one day PER week, either Sunday or Wednesday.
Misc. Bingo Help Needed
Cakes/Desserts: Need 6 for Wednesday and 6 for Sunday
Please sign up to get on the bakery list. We will have one parent collect the phone numbers of all of the parents willing to bake for Bingo. We will have that parent call you in advance and ask you to bake for a particular day. You can drop your bakery off in the Keller center by 4:30pm on Wednesday's and 3:30 on Sunday's or when you pick up the kids from school you can drop it off then. We will save your pans, put a post it note or something with it so we know whose is whose. They will be returned clean. We will leave them on the counter in the Keller Center.
Clean Up: Need help on Wednesday's and mostly Sunday's
During the course of the night at Bingo the players collect a lot of trash. They all get a brown paper bag when they come in and they put it down next to them. Every time we go to the next game, they take the last game's papers and throw them in the brown paper bag. There are 19 games per night. Some people play as many as 10 papers at a time. THAT'S A LOT OF GARBAGE! All of those brown bags have to be emptied into black plastic bags and then hauled off to the dumpster. Usually on Sunday's we have about 150 players and the whole process takes between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. Unfortunately we are so short of help on Sunday's that it's taking forever. It's mostly older female parishioners that are doing all of the clean up on Sunday's. The bags are not heavy but there are a lot of them. If you live nearby and can come on Wednesday's at 10:15 pm for up to 30 minutes (usually less) or on Sunday's at 9:15 pm for up to 30 minutes WE REALLY NEED YOU!
Remember Shopping Certificates for Christmas
As you do your Christmas shopping, please consider our shopping certificate program which greatly benefits the Academy of St. Adalbert. You can use certificates like cash to purchase gifts or give them as gifts themselves. Also, if you or someone you know owns or works for a company that buys employee or customer holiday gifts, please consider purchasing them through our program.
Remember - The shopping certificate program offers you the opportunity to earn tuition credits by purchasing shopping and gift certificates. Purchasing $1,500 in certificates earns a $50 tuition credit. Purchasing $3,000 in certificates earns a $100 tuition credit. And, all purchases over $3,000 earn an additional 2%.
We have certificates to meet all your needs: grocery stores, gas stations, department stores, restaurants, fast food, home improvement stores, bookstores, videos and toy stores.
Purchasing certificates is easy! Simply click here to print an order form. Checks should be made payable to Academy of St. Adalbert.
You may place your order by one of the following methods:
1. Sending the order form and payment in your Family Mail envelope.
2. Dropping the order form and payment off in the school office.
3. Stopping in the Church lobby after any Mass on the weekend.
