parents

Parents are our partners in education. Research has shown that when parental involvement in school is high, the children benefit. Children have higher grades and better test scores (especially in reading and math), adapt better to school, and have better social skills. Behavior at both home and school also improves.

The first, best thing you can do is to provide a rich, supportive learning environment at home. Other activities that research shows will benefit a child's academics are:

  • Staying in communication with the teacher,
  • Discussing school activities with your child,
  • Monitoring and supervising his or her out-of-school activities,
  • Attending conferences,
  • Volunteering at the school, and
  • Supporting school events to enrich the school environment.
