Computer Links for November

The following links will be used by classes during the month of November:

Label the parts of a computer system

 Build a CPU

Label the internal components of a computer system

Keyboarding Skills

All grades will be working on keyboarding skills at least one class period per month.  Grades Kindergarten - 2nd will be working on learning key locations since their fine motor skills are still developing.  The BBC has a great site called Dance Mat Typing that is geared toward this age group.  For Grades 3-8, we will be experimenting with different typing websites and programs to see which ones they enjoy using.  We have tried TypeRacer to determine individual typing speeds and to practice "real" text typing rather than drills.

CyberSmart

We are starting off the year with curriculum from CyberSmart! at http://www.cybersmartcurriculum.org/home/.  The CyberSmart! curriculum is divided into five S-M-A-R-T units, each teaching an important facet of Internet use:

Safety & Security

Manners & Ethics

Advertising Awareness

Research

Technology

Acceptable Use Policy

A copy of the Acceptable Use Policy was sent home for each student in the August 29, 2008 Family Mail folder.  Parents and students need to read the policy and sign the last page and return it to the academy office.  Students WILL NOT be allowed to access the Internet or use school technology equipment without a signed Acceptable Use Policy form on file.
